Basically, apart from the obvious advantages of not having to provision, cook, clean and do other housekeeping chores, the advantages are:

  1. all maintenance will be taken care of
  2. the responsibility of safe navigation lies with the captain
  3. passengers can enjoy sailing, helming and navigating with the crew helping and teaching
  4. time consuming delivery trips will be dealt with
  5. the ship will be able to generate income, being chartered by a professional crew, in the owners’ absence
  6. medical emergencies will be dealt with by a medically trained crew
  7. and -most importantly- her owners can leave Long Tall Sally for inland exploration trips without having to worry about her falling victim to crime or about her safety, should weather deteriorate.
