Chartering a yacht unmistakeably has advantages over owning one. This basic notion also applies to the Long Tall Sally concept. No upfront cash purchase payment and no risk of being forced into periodic capital injections to cover operational expenses. Once charterdestinations outside the Carribean and the Med seem tempting, chartering Long Tall Sally seems only too logical. Why would one, on top of that, want to own her? The following benefits are ‘owners only’:
- the owners decide on Long Tall Sally’s itinerary.
- they can cherry pick destinations, sailing periods and cabins.
- they don’t book their on board stay through a charteragent, leading to a 15% price benefit.
- owners are preferred and loyal customers, allowing for an extra 5% discount.
- they own part of the share capital in Sally Lightfoot BV, a company generating profit, especially once more than one vessel shall be operated.
- they share pro rata in the companies’ profits.
- the owners could decide to reinvest the companies’ profits and to start up another exciting project, thus adding shareholders’ value.
- for a similar amount a yacht nowhere near Long Tall Sally’s capacity can be chartered (for instance a six person 75 ft yacht).
- for a group of ten to twelve people, a much larger yacht will have to be chartered, for incredible prices.
- and even larger, classic yachts (of e.g. 125 ft) offer inner volume under Long Tall Sally’s size. Large overhangs, hydraulic swimming platforms and stern dinghy garages, take up a lot of space.
- especially their decksaloons, on Long Tall Sally the spacious social point of focus, usually comes away substantially smaller.
- although Long Tall Sally will not be created for entertainment primarily, her owners can use her for marketing purposes.
